Manager of Managers
Is a financial intermediary that hires professional investment managers to invest within certain asset classes within a portfolio. That intermediary will track the performance of each investment manager and has the ability to fire ineffective managers and hire replacements as necessary to maintain the portfolio’s overall performance and risk control measures. A Manager of Managers is also able to change managers depending on the clients’ changing strategy, attitude to risk or changing market conditions. Employing a Manager of Managers is an alternative to employing a single investment portfolio manager that may make both the asset allocation decisions and the underlying stock decisions. A Manager of Managers can manage directly invested (known as segregated) portfolios or funds of funds (see below).
Lord North Street is a Private Investment Office which creates tailor made asset allocations for its clients and makes tactical asset allocation changes depending on market conditions. It implements these asset allocations by choosing excellent fund managers in each asset class and so could be called a manager of managers. We do not have our own funds or invest directly but aim to pick the best of the best managers.
